Joey Diaz, the famous stand-up comedian and podcast host, is a frequent guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast. He and Rogan have been close friends for a long time, going back to their days of trying to make it as stand-up comedians in Los Angeles.
After following Joey Diaz’s social media and podcasts, I got to wondering – Why is he called Mad Flavors and where did it come from?
Joey Diaz is called Mad Flavors because of his notoriously bad smelling farts. One incident in particular, when he was young and in school, involved him farting on a school bus and one of the teachers exclaimed, “Oh my god, he’s changing flavors!”
Ever since then, Diaz loves to tell that story and his friends coined his nickname as “Mad Flavor(s).”
Diaz, a freshman at the time, was on the school bus to go play Paterson Eastside High School in a basketball game. The best part of the story, according to Diaz, was that his fart was so bad that it made the cheerleaders on the bus cry.

Alternative Origin to Mad Flavors
I am not the only Joey Diaz fan to wonder where he got the nickname Mad Flavors. According to one Reddit post, fans speculated where the origin of the nickname actually came from.
One Reddit user offered a different conclusion than the one from the bus incident. He had heard Diaz talk about his Cuban heritage and how they use many different spices when cooking up their food. This person said that’s where the nickname came from.
Mad Flavors World – Diaz’s YouTube
Diaz got into podcasting and vlogging way before they became popular. That’s where he publicly embraced his nickname Mad Flavors, and off it stemmed his YouTube Vlog series, titled Mad Flavors World.
During 2011-12, Diaz recorded and uploaded a ton of Vlog videos to his YouTube channel. It was a unique perspective into his life, because he recorded videos everywhere during his day-to-day life, even on the toilet.
One of Diaz’s favorite things to do on Mad Flavors World was to walk the streets of Los Angeles, offering his thoughts on the world. Sometimes, fans would recognize him and jump into the video with him. Also, he often recorded from onstage at one of his stand-up comedy shows.
