If you follow Joe Rogan and the JRE podcast you probably have seen his dog Marshall with him. Always a hit with podcast guests, his dog is a big attention-getter because of how friendly he is. But what else is there to know about him?
Joe Rogan’s dog, born in December 2016, is a male golden retriever named Marshall Mae Rogan and boasts a popular Instagram account. Rogan feeds him a diet comprising kibble, elk, and wild game, and they frequently go running together for exercise.
Rogan’s dog, also has many hobbies, including squirrel chasing, playing with chew tows and stuffed animals, wearing clothes, hanging out at the podcast studio, and taking naps.
Marshall’s Instagram page
It’s unclear who actually runs Marshall’s Instagram page, but he has an incredibly high amount of followers. Marshall’s first Instagram post came on November 14th, 2018, not long after he had grown into a full size adult.
For a dog, he even has some impressive followers, including Young Jamie and JRE podcast guests – Cameron Hanes, John Dudley, and Jessimae Peluso.
If you follow Marshall, don’t expect him to follow you back because he only follows one account – Joe Rogan.

What Does Joe Rogan Feed His Dog?
- Kibble
- Ground elk
- Elk tenderloin
- Other wild game
Rogan is avid hunter because he likes the outdoors and enjoys eating healthy. Wild game is perhaps the healthiest way to eat meat – it’s organic, free-range, and free of the antibiotics, steroids, and hormones that is typically found in grocery store meat.

Rogan could certainly afford a meat only diet for his dog and has tons of it from hunting. But, based off this Facebook video from 2017, Marshall clearly is used to eating kibble.

It is no surprise to see that Rogan feeds Marshall elk and other wild game. Elk is Rogan’s favorite source of protein and one of the most nutrient dense meat that you can get on the planet. The meat is lean and tasty from living a hard life climbing up mountains and running away from grizzly bears.

How does Joe Rogan exercise his dog?
Golden retrievers need lots of exercise to stay at optimal health. Even the name “retriever” implies that they like to run and retrieve objects, including animals, tennis balls, and dog toys. Rogan keeps his dog Marshall well exercised, like himself, with a variety of activities.
Trail Running
One of Rogan’s favorite exercises that he does on a consistent basis is hill running. So, it’s no shock that he takes Marshall with him on trails.

Swimming
Most golden retrievers love to get in the water to swim around or fetch something, and Marshall is no different.
Playing Fetch
Whether it’s a tennis ball or a frisbee, if you throw it – Marshall will go get it.
Here is picture of Marshall having just fetched a tennis ball. On Amazon, they have a well-priced bag of fetch balls for dogs.

Another skill of Marshall’s, which is a much more advanced skill than fetching a tennis ball, is fetching a frisbee.

-Joe Rogan to Bret Kreischer on the JRE podcast
Squirrel Hunting
Squirrels were getting into Rogan’s chicken coop and stealing the chicken food, plus the eggs they were laying, so Marshall decided to put an end to that.

When Marshall can’t get his hands on a squirrel, he will settle for a toy. Rogan gives Marshall a wide variety of toys, including stuffed animals, chew toys, fetch balls, and frisbees.
Marshall has a deep affection for his stuffed animals. It seems that bigger is better, with an IG post saying: “I like big toys and I cannot lie.”
