Joe Rogan Uses The World’s Strongest Smelling Salts: Jujimufu

Joe Rogan and Theo Von try the world's strongest smelling salt - Jujimufu.

Smelling salts – a potent mixture of ammonium carbonate so strong it can revive the unconscious. In a single sniff, they’ll have someone wincing uncontrollably. Once a Victorian cure for dizziness, today, some athletes rely on it to increase alertness before and during athletic performance.

Little wonder that Joe Rogan got in on the action when he and Theo Von decided to try the world’s strongest smelling salts – Jujimufu’s “AHHH!!! World’s Strongest Smelling Salts”. However, Rogan and Von have had such a kick out of smelling these, that they have done them in three different podcast episodes!

Rogan’s openness to new physical and mental experiences is common practice. There’s a reason why the show’s logo features a third eye. Like ‘mad honey’ or DMT, smelling salts are just one more experience he had to try – and get his guests in on it too. In this case, everyone’s favorite Cajun comedian, Theo Von, was in the hot seat. Needless to say – wincing, grimacing, and hysterics ensue.

Why? Because Von and Rogan didn’t just try any old smelling salts – they tried the world’s strongest!

What Brand of Smelling Salt Did Rogan Use?

Never heard of Jujimufu – the world’s strongest smelling salts? You’re not alone. Rogan revealed that he first learnt about Jujimufu smelling salts from strongman Rob Kearney, a guest on JRE #1416 & #1727. However, these are not just ordinary smelling salts – Jujimufu advertises them as the world’s strongest.

But what makes these smelling salts more potent than others?

Literally called ‘AHHH!!! World’s Strongest Smelling Salts,’ they contain 100% raw ingredients. That means the ammonia reacts more fiercely to create a potent ammonia vapor.

As they explain, similar to how hot sauces can be measured in terms of Scoville units, smelling salts have their own equivalent. Although not available on Amazon, you can purchase the eye-watering product on their website and judge for yourself. There are some good alternatives on Amazon, like the Ward Bottled Insanity:

Round 1 (JRE episode #1731 w/ Theo Von)

When Theodor Capitani von Kurnatowski, aka Theo Von, rocks up at the Joe Rogan studio, you know you’re in for a treat. As a reoccurring guest, he’s one of the most popular guests on the show. After all, when you expect him to zig, he zags.

But, while Theo usually keeps Rogan on his toes, in episode #1731, it was Rogan who left Theo squirming. Revealing he first learnt about the salts from strongman Rob Kearney, Rogan handed the Jujimufu container to Theo.

Barely holding the salts to his nose, the reaction was instant and for a minute or more, the pair were left dumbfounded, overpowered by the potency of the Jujimufu salts. Hilariously, ‘Young Jamie’ can be heard in the background coughing and spluttering.

Round 2 (JRE episode #1847 w/ Theo Von

By the time Von came back on the podcast, for some reason they wanted to do the smelling salts again and almost immediately regretted their decision. Rogan tried to peer pressure Young Jamie into trying some although he sternly refused.

Round 3 (JRE episode #1994 w/ Theo Von)

Not satisfied with Round 1 & 2, Rogan upped the game when Theo returned in June 2023. Surprisingly, Theo, already having experience with Jujimufu smelling salts, was very excited and looking forward to Round 3.

Advising Theo not to inhale the salts fully, the comedian bravely took a big whiff. So pungent was the reaction that Theo was left speechless. Rogan explains that they’re supposed to help weightlifters improve their performance, to which Theo joked:

“…before they lift the universe or their future?”
